Luke 22:35-38
As I continue in my reading of Luke 22, I have come to the part in verses 32-35 where Jesus said, "scripture must be fulfilled in me." He told his disciples that in the past, they were to take nothing with them on their missions, but now the time has come to take what they need. He was warning the disciples that they would no longer be welcomed as they had been before. People were turning against Jesus and would turn against them, too. He then, speaking of Himself, quoted Isaiah, 'And He was numbered with the transgressors.' "For what was written about me has its fulfillment." He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth, like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? And they made his grave with the wicked. and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. (Isaiah 53:7-9)
