"If I tell you, you will not believe..." | Luke 22:66-71 Before the council of the chief priests and scribes, Jesus was put on trial. They said to Him, "If you are the Christ, tell us." These men hoped to catch Jesus claiming to be God. Jesus said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe, and if I ask you, you will not answer. But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God." So they all said, "Are you the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "You say that I am" Then they said, "What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips." Have you ever been engaged in a conversation that was futile. where someone opposes you and tries to get you to engage in arguing? Nothing you say will help them see your point because they have already decided they disagree with you. Jesus had no reason to try to convince these men or argue about who He was. The council of Jewish leaders was not willing to change. These men who interrogated Jesus had made up their minds that Jesus was not the Son of God. Nothing Jesus did or said would change their minds. We must examine ourselves. Is our heart and mind closed off to Jesus as the the Son of God? God will either soften a hardened heart or let it continue to harden to the point of eternal destruction. The good news is when we let down our pride and defenses, repenting and trusting in Him, He will give us a new heart that believes no matter the cost. |
